A Foodie & Tech Fusion – Powered by Seamless POS Integration

What do you get when you cross two Shire boys with a dash of gourmet training (at the iconic NOMA, no less) and a sprinkling of Japanese-by-way-of-Mexico flavour? An absolutely intriguing restaurant offering –

The brainchild of Andrew Collis and Jordan Hajek, the latest fusion cool-kid to hit Newtown’s hip foodie scene has so much going for it – and thanks to Doshii’s integration with Square, Uber Eats and DoorDash, it’s ticking along as smooth as silk(y tofu).

Both Andrew and Jordan gained experience in the service industry in luxury hotels and fine dining – so when Jordan floated the idea of the two of them starting a Japanese-Mexican fusion venture, it took time to flesh it out.

After a couple of years of product testing, they found their sweet spot: “The TokyoTaco – the perfect fusion of Japanese and Mexican cooking techniques.” But they also had a business plan. The aim? Quick-service sector disruption.

Fine Fusion Done Fast with App-to-POS-Integration

“What we’re looking to do,” explains Andrew, “is bring that restaurant quality food into fast-paced environments where we can build a taco or whether it be one of our ‘Nachosus’ which is our take on a nachos, within 90 seconds to two minutes. And bringing that a level of service into our space.”

To maintain that level of customer service enhancement meant that “you’re not necessarily faced with screens.” Instead,

trying to find that feedback to improve as a brand, as well.”

To achieve that kind of customer service, both Andrew and Jordan knew that they needed streamlined tech solutions. They started with their Square POS.

“They’ve been awesome to date,” says Andrew. “It’s been a seamless process. No issues, we’ve always got support.”

But while they were pleased as punch with their POS, they quickly zeroed in on one aspect of the quick service industry that they had overlooked: pickup & delivery optimisation through seamless POS integration.

Doing More with Pickup & Delivery Apps Uber Eats and DoorDash

“Coming from fine dining and luxury hotels, we’ve never had that piece with delivery. That was quite new to us. But we realised quickly that if we didn’t get pickup & delivery onboard, we’d be missing out.”

Once Uber Eats and DoorDash were brought on board, they noticed a difference straight away. “They now make up about 35% of all our sales,” says Andrew. But this uptick in orders also meant an uptick in manual processing – and that became a problem.

“We realised that it’s not convenient to be double handling, and receiving orders through Uber Eats and DoorDash, and then manually putting them through the system – it’s just extra work.”

That’s where hospitality app integration with Doshii came in – and it’s been smooth sailing ever since. “Doshii has been awesome,” says Andrew. “The system you guys have created has been so seamless in the process of orders coming directly through the POS… We accept all orders roll through the system, the docket pops out, and it’s just awesome.”

We love to hear it! But it’s not just Doshii’s effortless app-to-POS integrations that have the gang at TokyoTaco saying “sugoi!” Doshii’s menu manager service is also a clear winner.

“It’s really simple and easy to change or add items on at the same time,” says Andrew, before giving us an example.

“I’ll talk about last night. I was adding on modifiers onto some of our core products. And just the way you’ve got the ability to put it into Square, and then within two seconds, it uploads directly into Doshii, and you just add it on? It’s really simple, and it’s been amazing to work with.”

They’re also big fans of the ’round the clock support they’ve received from the team at Doshii, which Andrew says has been excellent “from day one. If I’ve ever had an issue, which have only been minor, it’s been rectified within 24 hours, if not less.”

A Doshii Success Story: From Fusion Cuisine to Streamlined Venue Operations

Now that they’ve got their tech in order, TokyoTaco’s unique offering is travelling full-steam ahead. At the moment, they’re focusing on ironing out the day-to-day reality of running a bustling small business and “making sure we get that correct.”

But the duo are dreaming big, with hopes to expand within the next 12 months and a ten-year-plan that involves taking the brand international.

With such a unique offering and a fully-integrated suite of hospitality apps making their daily processes as smooth as a cerveza in the sunshine, they’re well on their way.
